The program is directed primarily to children of poor working families (only exceptionally to street children), from 3 to 13 years old, without distinction of gender, nationality or beliefs.

The criteria to select children attending FAAF Houses give priority to younger children (from 3 years old) groups of brothers; extremely needed families; parents with a demonstrable job, and a real will to improve their condition; families living in the neighborhood and likely to integrate in the community.

Most of the children live in precary, stacked conditions, but they have a home, and parents or relatives who care for them (at least in the very short time when they can be toghether and with the little economic and
educational resources they have).

Around 50% of the parents have dropped out of primary school, and children are likely to drop out or to have big difficulties at school. A survey conducted by FAAF in 1991 steemed that 70% of them would have had to repeat the grade if they hadn't had the support of Children Houses.

Teenagers formely attending Children Houses and parents are also beneficiaries of specifical programs.
